Workbrew 2.0, Enabling builders with "the app store for your entire company"
Workbrew
NEW YORK, NY — October 14th, 2026
Workbrew’s mission is to enable every developer, creative, and builder with the tools they need to do their best work, in a safe and secure environment.
Today’s 2.0 release delivers: companies now have visibility into an expanding collection of software titles via the Workbrew Catalog. Workbrew is expanding to serve a larger package ecosystem, including npm and IDE extension support for VS Code and its derivatives. For IT services organizations, we’re introducing multi-tenant management and consolidated billing with Workbrew MSP.
The timing could not be more urgent. AI has made everyone a builder, and every build is a new exposure. In 2026, employees using unapproved AI tools were involved in 43% of security incidents, and AI-enabled malicious breaches increased 56% in 2026 (IBM’s 2026 Cost of A Data Breach Report).
At the same time, leaders tell us they can’t fall behind: companies that are actively using AI-enabled tools are growing faster in revenue, successfully outpacing competitors in efficiency, insights, and output. Opting out of new tooling isn’t caution, it’s competitive risk.
Workbrew’s new capabilities gives every team the freedom to build, and the guardrails to keep their stack safe. Those guardrails rest on a secure foundation: Workbrew is now ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified.
Today’s news also marks Workbrew’s acquisition of Updatest, the app that helps thousands of Mac users keep all of their software up-to-date. We joined forces to bring that experience to every customer through the new Workbrew app, also available today. Updatest will remain a separate product for individuals and families, and business customers are served by Workbrew.
“Two years and over 10 million patched vulnerabilities since launch, companies have access to the widest software catalog available - 16K packages in Homebrew, and now 4M npm packages, and 132K IDE extensions,” said Workbrew CEO, John Britton. “The breadth of the catalog makes Workbrew a unified management layer for all of the software in your organization.”
“The data is telling us that the best tools for your team weren’t procured through IT, they were installed directly by the people who needed them,” said Workbrew Co-founder and COO Vanessa Gennarelli. “I’m excited about the creativity and innovation that’s in store for teams when they can use cutting-edge technology safely.”
“With Workbrew, we finally have real visibility into what developers are using in Homebrew. Fleet-wide updates are effortless, and the team stays secure without being slowed down.” - Chris Merrell, Director IT, End User Services, Camping World.
