FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NY – April 28, 2025 — Workbrew, the secure software delivery platform built on top of the widely-adopted open source tool Homebrew, announced the release of Version 1.2, which includes an expansion of their generous Free plan, and features to fortify the software supply chain of enterprises everywhere.
What is Workbrew? Workbrew gives IT admins and security professionals the tools to centrally manage, secure, and automate Homebrew usage across their fleet. By adding policy enforcement, package intelligence, and MDM integration to the Homebrew ecosystem, Workbrew transforms a powerful developer tool into a scalable, secure solution for the enterprise. Launched in 2024, Workbrew has grown to a global team of 10 with former engineers and leaders from GitHub, 37Signals, and CloudFlare.
What is new and newsworthy? Default Packages are standardized collections of essential tools, configurations and automation templates that can be used to quickly and easily bootstrap a device. Teams can define a core toolset and have it automatically installed on enrolled across their fleet, accelerating setup, reducing errors, and improving developer efficiency.
Free plan users now have access to Default Packages, making it easier than ever to get new developers started with a consistent toolset.
What is at stake for enterprises? Engineering and security leaders may not even be aware of the number of packages, the various versions, and the mix of licenses in their stack—leaving them open to vulnerabilities and compliance violations. Not wanting to risk their software supply chain, all too often firms prevent the use of open source tooling, which prevents teams from garnering efficiency and productivity gains. New features from Workbrew in this release fortify their stack while enabling teams to move faster.
“Workbrew just keeps evolving to meet the real-world needs of modern IT teams,” “Everything in version 1.2 — from automated Default Packages to enhanced security policies — was designed based on direct user feedback. Our goal is to give teams more control, stronger compliance, and less manual work as they scale their fleets.”
“Workbrew 1.2 is a major milestone in our journey to revolutionize software management at scale,” said John Britton, CEO & Co-founder of Workbrew. “By combining stronger security policies, smarter automation, and an intuitive user experience, we’re giving teams unprecedented power to innovate faster without compromising on control or safety.”
“In today’s security-conscious climate, Workbrew 1.2 gives IT leaders peace of mind without slowing down development,” adds COO & Co-founder Vanessa Gennarelli. “It’s about building safety into the workflow – a balance where developers have the freedom to use the best tools, and security teams have the oversight to protect the business. With these new policy features, our customers can accelerate development while staying fully compliant and secure.”
Workbrew is quickly becoming the standard for managing Homebrew environments across fast-scaling fleets, modern IT teams, and organizations operating in regulated or complex environments. With native MDM support, automated software governance, and real-time package visibility, Workbrew continues to serve as a critical layer in the modern macOS stack.
Workbrew 1.2 is available now. Features like Default Packages and Package Metadata are included in all plans. Advanced policy controls, MDM integration, and device group targeting are available on Pro and Enterprise tiers.
