Transfer Workspace ownership
Petros Amoiridis
Use this guide to hand ownership of a Workspace to another User, for example when the current owner is leaving the company or changing roles. The current owner starts the transfer and confirms it through a link sent to their own email address.
Prerequisites
- You are the current owner of the Workspace. The owner has an Owner badge next to their name in Settings > Users.
- You have the Administrator role in the Workspace, so you can open Settings.
- The new owner is already a User in the Workspace with the Administrator role. If they are not a member yet, add them first with Add New User.
Start the transfer
-
In the Workbrew Console, go to Settings > Users.
-
Find the User who should become the new owner. In the Ownership column of their row, click Transfer Ownership. The button only appears for Users with the Administrator role.
-
Confirm the prompt. Workbrew sends a confirmation email to you, the current owner, not to the new owner.
The Ownership column is only visible to the current owner. Other admins do not see it.
Confirm the transfer
-
Open the email whose subject starts with "Confirm the ownership transfer of" and click Confirm ownership transfer. You need to be signed in to the Workbrew Console as the current owner.
-
On the Transfer Workspace Ownership page, check the Workspace and the new owner, then click Confirm Transfer. Click Cancel to stop without making any change.
The link expires 15 minutes after it is sent and works only once. If it has expired, or the new owner no longer has the Administrator role, you see "This ownership transfer link is invalid or has expired." Start again from Settings > Users.
If you ignore the email, ownership stays as it is.
What changes after the transfer
- The new owner gets the Owner badge in Settings > Users.
- You stay a member of the Workspace, and your role does not change. You are no longer the owner, so the Ownership column disappears for you.
- You and the new owner both receive an email saying ownership has been transferred.
If the transfer was made by mistake, contact help@workbrew.com.
