Developer Advocate, IT & Security at Workbrew

Developer Advocate, IT & Security at Workbrew

Remote: (almost) anywhere

$50k - $200k USD (paid in local currency)

At Workbrew we are building the features that companies need on top of Homebrew, the most popular package manager on macOS (and growing on Linux). Workbrew provides commercial support and MDM integration and will in future provide many other features around Homebrew needed by the enterprise.

Why Workbrew Needs [You]

Our product improves the lives of IT administrators, Mac Admins, and security professionals in companies large and small. We launched our beta in August of 2024 with a free plan, self-serve per device pricing, as well as our enterprise offering. Our list of customers grows weekly, and we’re getting featured in exciting outlets like The Next Web and Tech Informed.

Now it’s time to grow: we want to help every team using Homebrew in their workplace. There are more events, conferences, and guest appearances than the team of cofounders can personally staff (and teleportation still has yet to materialise, sadly). In this role you can make a massive impact–have at it.

Here’s an overview of the areas you would own:

  • Engagement of IT Communities: Our users participate in various communities such as: MacAdmins, JNUC, MacSysAdmins, MacAd, MacDevOps and more. We’re looking to grow Workbrew’s relationships everywhere IT folks gather. If you’re an active member of one of those communities, we’d love to talk to you.

  • Technical Content Creation: Write blogs, tutorials, case studies, and whitepapers to educate the IT community on our solutions and their practical applications in IT environments.

  • Technical Presentations: Host webinars, workshops, and technical talks that showcase our technology and its use cases.

  • Lead Generation: This role aims to accelerate pipeline growth, with a goal of driving sales leads. Many of our customers work in regulated industries, so experience within those organisations will serve you in good stead.

This role is the first hire on the Go-To-Market team, and would report directly to the cofounder/CEO who previously played a key role in developer go-to-market at Twilio and GitHub.

Working at Workbrew

Our approach: At Workbrew we work hard but (usually) not long. We value getting things done quickly so we can spend time with our friends, family and pursue our hobbies. We know that “time spent working” is an exceptionally poor metric for output, happiness or success. You can read more about our philosophy and values here

Workbrew is a remote-first company: Our team is spread across North America, Europe, and Asia, and the cofounders have been working remotely for a total of 30 years. There is no “HQ” and we have no plans to open one. When a meeting can instead be a document, pull request or a Slack message: it is. That does not mean we expect you to be “always on” – one of our values is balance and we mean it.

Expectations for travel: In our experience, humans like meeting other humans in person. It helps us bond and work better together. Additionally, this role will include up to 50% travel to meet with customers at their location and at industry events.

Requirements (you need all of these)
  • Technical Expertise: You have a deep background in IT administration, security, fleet management, and/or Mac development.

  • Content Creation: You can make content that IT admins will find compelling, i.e. technical blog posts, demos and webinars.

  • Community Involvement: You actively participate in IT and Security communities or open-source projects, with a passion for engaging and building relationships.

  • Public Speaking: Your demo game is powerful, and you’re comfortable presenting both online and in person.

Nice-to-haves (you do not need any of these)
  • Sales Focus: You have experience working in a role with a focus on lead generation or technical sales

  • You have worked remotely before

  • You have worked on a timezone distributed team before

Benefits
  • The starting pay for this role is between $50k - $200k USD (paid in your local currency, through Deel, if outside the US).

  • If employed full-time:

    • A generous equity package

    • We provide flexible paid leave. Everyone is expected to take at least 20 days off a year (or your country’s legal minimum). 40 paid vacation days off a year is too many.

    • Paid travel, accommodation and (pre-agreed) expenses to meet coworkers in person a couple of times a year.

  • You can do your work from different places around the world (as long as you get your job done and show up for meetings at the right times).

  • If there’s something else you really want that we’ve not mentioned: please ask. We’re a small, early-stage company so are willing to be flexible and work with you to hire exceptional people like you.

Workbrew is an equal opportunity employer. We make all employment decisions including hiring, evaluation, termination, promotional, and training opportunities, without regard to race, religion, skin colour, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, physical handicap, mental disability, medical condition, disability, gender or identity or expression, political affiliation or beliefs (within democratic norms) pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, marital status, height and/or weight.

We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

If you have read to this point and you doubt if you are qualified: please apply anyway.
